Geoffrey Nicastro is an American born ceramic artist raised in the Netherlands, settled in Santa Cruz California and MFA graduate from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia PA. The study of traditional and contemporary ceramics styles from around the world have made it possible for Nicastro to use the material to describe complex ideas and create strong visuals. His latest work Self Portrait: Moments 1 2 and 3 challenges the metaphor of container as a description of self. Atmospheric firings give his raw clay sculptures the markings of trials over time. Nicastro is currently exhibiting in California and Pennsylvania, whilst searching for a tenure faculty position where he can further his research and help other artist develop.
