Geoffrey Kahill Nicastro's art style reflects his desire to be a successful
artist by choosing to be compared to names like
Van Gogh 
or
Picasso. 
" I like my art to express my inner beliefs while enforcing a style that works
best for the medium involved. Van Gogh's thick paint that shows off the way the
brush is loaded, creating additional lines and carrying color around the canvas,
is how I choose to use paint. Compositionally I go with Picasso's rhythm of shape
and using key elements to enable a canvas to start a conversation with the viewer.
The imagery I use is to express how I see the world, everything fitting together
to make life what it is."
In 1968 6 months after I was born, my parents
moved from Hadley MA, USA to The Hague, Netherlands. I won 3rd prize in a Dutch
national art contest in 1976. Upon high school graduation in 1985 I returned to
the USA to study Biology in upstate NY, Alfred University. At Alfred I was introduced
to ceramics on a scale beyond mosts imagination. The world of sculpture I had
been seeing on the streets of my home town was now at my finger tips. I began
to explore texture in three dimensions.
The act of creating the artwork
is enough of a reason to create. I do not pretend to believe that everything that
comes from my hands is pure and well executed, although I hope and try often.
Try to move with direction. The direction is from the greats, always trying to
show the material and relying on key elements. Clay is occupying the majority
of my time. Soft plastic clay takes on our every direction and the awareness needed
to develop strong forms intensifies my life.
I started Gallery For Rent, because
I wanted to live from artwork. I am always trying to make great artwork and you
should buy some. I hope you understand that the art is more than what you find
on this webiste. The impact of the art you experience, and quantity on this website
are but a taste of what is real.
